About Moths in Kihoku
Kihoku Town, located in the southern part of Mie Prefecture, lies between the towering Odai Mountain Range to the northwest and the vast Pacific Ocean to the southeast. With a forest area of 22,522 hectares, much of the land is covered with cypress plantations. However, untouched evergreen broadleaf forests remain in steep valleys and rugged mountain areas where plantation is difficult.
As someone born and raised in Kihoku, I have witnessed the decline in insect populations due to expanding human activity and the effects of global warming. My fieldwork focuses on understanding the Lepidoptera, particularly moths, native to this region. This website serves as a record of my findings and will continue to be updated with new observations.

Identifying Moth Species
Species identification is primarily based on photographs. However, some species are difficult to distinguish by appearance alone. If you notice any errors or have suggestions, please contact me at rajdhani2435▲gmail.com.
